چکیده

Material and methods Between 2002-2010, 73 patients (45 males, median age 74 years) underwent transoral stapling. The operation was performed under general anesthesia using a Weerda diverticuloscope and one or more cartridges of linear endostapler. Since 2008, a retention suture (Endostitch) was routinely used to improve traction of the septum inside the stapler jaws. Patients OLDER and YOUNGER than 75 years were compared for perioperative variables and long-term outcomes using Chi-squared test, Student’s t test and Kaplan Meier analysis with log-rank test. Recurrence was defined as a relapse of the symptoms requiring reoperation.

Cricopharyngeal myotomy with thulium laser through flexible endoscopy: proof-of-concept study

Background and study aims  Endoscopic treatment of Zenker's diverticulum has proven feasible, but electrocautery and CO 2 laser technology carry the risk of collateral thermal injury. Thulium laser septum incision may overcome this limitation. We describe for the first time the use of thulium laser through flexible endoscopy in a small cohort of patients with Zenker diverticulum. Patients and...

Surgical treatment of Zenker's diverticulum.

BACKGROUND Different surgical techniques have been indicated for the management of Zenker's diverticulum (ZD), including diverticulectomy, diverticulopexy, and diverticular inversion, with or without myotomy, and myotomy alone. More recently, minimally invasive techniques (such as the transoral endoscopic approach) have become increasingly reliable for this disorder. We therefore conducted this...

Zenker's Diverticulum.

Zenker's diverticulum (ZD) is an outpouching of tissue through the Killian triangle that is believed to be caused by dysfunction of the cricopharyngeal muscle. ZD is a relatively uncommon disorder occurring in the elderly. The predominant symptom of ZD is dysphagia, and the most serious consequence is pulmonary aspiration. Videofluoroscopy confirms the diagnosis. Therapy of symptomatic ZD has e...
